A Silent Song in Hex Literary!
Read it here!!!
This flash story is all about plant perception. Plants see and communicate via pheromone. Plants have memory. Plants have intention and (maybe even) agency! I'm really into the idea of plants as agents an this was a way for me to write that. This was inspired by my reading of What A Mushroom Lives For by Michael Hathaway, a sequel in the working group series kicked off by The Mushroom At The End Of The World.
I wrote this eco/body/labor-horror in the spring and was so excited when hex accepted it. Hex has some crazy credentials and is getting a lot of well-deserved attention both the literary and genre worlds. It's one of those magazines that manages the crossover particularly well AND has a cool, vibey, readable design AND very kind and fun editors. So go read a story from them, even if it's not mine, and show your support <3
