New Story in Strange Horizons!

I'm so excited to say that my latest story, A Funny Thing Happened On The Limbhackers Forum, is out now in Strange Horizons. In an internet forum for discussing illegal modifications to limb upgrades, controversy sparks when a user asks for help hacking what seems to be a stolen limb. Soon the forum is wrapped up in the drama of did-they-or-didn't-they, all the while discussing their own builds, pasts, perspectives, and more.

This is one of the most fun stories I've ever written. I can't tell you what a blast it was to write in this format, come up with all the names and terms, etc. And yet it's also a personal story, because, of course, I have a limb disability of my own.

I don't know whether I'd like an upgrade or not. It honestly sounds nice to have a pain-free limb that can do whatever I want it to. But nothing in our capitalist world is without costs and dependencies. This is what I am interested in, here.

I hope you enjoy the story. I want to thank editor Austin Dewar again, who was a joy to work with, and whose amazing formatting skills made this piece better than I ever envisioned.

Happy reading,

Kate

P.S.: this story will be translated into German for the upcoming jubilee issue of Future Fictions!!!
